FCHS art teacher wins classroom grant
Pat Steinman has been awarded The Laurine Kimmel Art Education Grant. The $500 grant will provide a digital camera, camera accessories, and Adobe Photoshop software for her classroom. As part of the grant project, the students will take a picture of themselves with the digital camera. They will use the Photoshop program to simplify the picture into color splotches and shapes. They will then create a collage by cutting out the splotches and shapes and gluing them to illustration board.
FCHS was eligible to apply for the grant because they are participating in the Laurine Kimmel High School Exhibit. Student art will be shown at the Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts in Nebraska City during an exhibit from March 10 through April 27, 2008.
The art education grant was funded through a Kimmel Foundation Grant made to Educational Service Unit 4 in Auburn. The goals of the program are to provide an exhibit venue for the work of high school students in southeast Nebraska and an opportunity to obtain financial support for new art education activities.
