February Students of the Month chosen

Chosen as February Falls City Middle School Students of the Month are, left to right, Maggy Rieschick, Elizabeth Oliver, and Reese Hogue.
The students of the month for February at Falls City Middle School were Reese Hogue, eighth grade; Elizabeth Oliver, seventh grade; and Maggy Rieschick, sixth grade. Each pupil received a T-shirt printed with the Student of the Month logo. The shirts are compliments of Stripes and Signs. The Elks Club will sponsor a complimentary meal during Youth Week for all this year’s student of the month recipients and their parents.
Maggy is the sixth grade student of the month for February. She is the daughter of Ryan and Holly Rieschick. According to her teachers, she uses her classtime wisely and is always willing to help others. Maggy has been enjoying everything about the Falls City Middle School. Her favorite class is science. She is on the honor roll and ABBIT lists and has received awards for art projects. Maggy is active in band and chorus and was selected to participate in “Sing Around Nebraska." Maggy was a student manager for the high school softball team and the middle school girls' basketball team.
Outside of school, Maggy is an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 20th and Towle, where she has performed special music on several occasions. She also participates in Traveler’s softball and basketball, as well as summer league softball. Her favorite movie is Twilight, and she enjoys eating at A & G’s!
Elizabeth is the seventh grade student of the month for February. She is the daughter of Rob and Leslie Oliver. Her teachers say that Elizabeth is a quiet, positive student, who works productively in the classroom. She is a great role model for others. Elizabeth appreciates the way teachers treat students at the Falls City Middle School. Her favorite class is science, and she continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. She is active in band and quiz bowl.
Beyond the school building, Elizabeth is an active member of the Falls City Swim Team, as well as the local soccer and softball leagues. Elizabeth’s favorite movie is Far and Away, and she enjoys eating at the Great China Buffet!
Reese is the eighth grade student of the month for February. He is the son of Don and Terri Hogue. His teachers describe Reese as a model student who is hardworking, very involved in school activities, helpful to others, and a wonderful student to have in the classroom. Reese enjoys all of the teachers at the Falls City Middle School and likes how they go about explaining everything to the students. His favorite class is social studies. He is active in football, basketball, track, band, chorus, show choir, FCA, quiz bowl, and Clown Troupe. He continues to be on the honor roll and ABBIT lists. Reese has also received recognition on his art work.
Away from school, Reese is a member of the River of Hope Fellowship Youth Group, Jaycee Teens, as well as participating in the local baseball and soccer leagues. Reese’s favorite movie is Glory Road, and he enjoys eating at A & G!
The students who received honorable mention for February include Bailey Bindle, Chessanie Blakley, Candace Chandler, Greg Folsom, Samantha Harmon, Megan Vollmer, Jerrica Beckner, Lee Huettner, Maygan Ramsey, Chelsea Roberts, Kaylee Rosenberger, Marrissa Stark, Vince Dean, Gianandria Herpel, Rebecca Newland, Brittany Ritter, Allyson Scholl, and Emily Weaver.
To receive Student of the Month, students must first be nominated by one of their teachers. The criteria for nomination includes citizenship, role model, leadership, noteworthy deeds, grades or grade improvement, attendance, school achievements and outside-of-school recognition. All teachers read through the nomination forms after they have been submitted. On the day of voting for Student of the Month, the teachers meet before school. Teachers who have comments about those nominated are asked to contribute. The teachers then vote by private balloting. To win Student of the Month, one student must receive a majority of the votes. Those who don’t win are given honorable mention and are eligible in future months. |
