NHS paints park for service project

Members of the Falls City High School National Honor Society, administration, and board members completed a service learning project on Saturday, October 6. They spent the day painting playground equipment at Water Tower Park.

Dr. Jon Habben, Superintendent of Schools, was approached by City Engineer Larry Sample about the possibility of a school group being interested in the painting project.  Gale Dunkhas, Principal and National Honor Society sponsor, approached Stephanie Elwonger, president of NHS, about the project. She easily recruited members of the group who were happy to take on the task.  Mr. Dunkhas believes that these are the kind of activities that are perfect for student groups like the National Honor Society.  He said, “It as great to see everyone pitch in and help make a difference in the community.”

Members of the painting team were  students Stephanie Elwonger, Lane Merz, Madison Winslow, Jayna Habben, Danelle Johnson, Emily Streit, Laura Stevens, Tessa Way, and Allison Joy. They were joined by Dr. Jon Habben and Gale Dunkhas, along with school board members Kathy Bartek and Scott Huppert, and his son Chance Huppert.
