Students perform in Pops Concert

Stand By Me Image
Performing "Stand by Me" are freshmen Haylee Olberding, Sydnie Murphy, and Skylar Olberding.

On Sunday, January 27, music students entertained the audience with a variety of songs during the 3rd annual Pops Concert. In introducing the singers, vocal music instructor Alisha Sutton explained why the concert was being held. She said, "The main reason is to let students sing in front of an audience before district music contest. They can sing more "pop" style songs, not the classic or district type songs." She added that another reason to hold the concert was to perform the show choir competition show for the community and to help raise money for their outfits.

It's Raining Men Image
The female members of show choir sing and dance to the song "It's Raining Men" from the musical
Hairspray.

After the concert, Mrs. Sutton praised the students. She said, "I am very proud of the soloists and duets. It is very hard to sing in front of people you know and for young performers, it is double hard." She added, "I was pleased with the show choir as well as the community turn out. I don't think we have had that many in attendance before."

The Song Goes Like This Image
Performing the entertaining song "The Song That Goes Like This" from the musical
Spamelot are sophomore Rodney Mount and senior Gillian Rolfe.

The show choir's competition season begins on February 4 at Norris. They will also compete in the UNO Show Choir Competition on February 13 and in the Millard West Competition on February 23. In addition, they will go to Omaha North's Viking Cup on March 16 and travel to Norfolk for the Northeast Jazz Festival on March 26. The competitions will end with the District Music Contest in Auburn in April.
