Teachers win NCLB funded mini-grants
Teachers at all levels were given the opportunity to write No Child Left Behind funded SMART Board mini-grants. The NCLB funds will be used to purchase SMART Boards, LCD projectors, and the necessary cables. The applicants will be required to turn in a classroom lesson plan and teach the lesson in front of their principal. Recipients of the mini-grants with a short description of how they will use the SMART Board are as follows:
Lacey Reed – North Elementary School
|
This mini-grant project will focus on meeting both reading and math L.E.A.R.N.S. for kindergarten by displaying problems and activities. The SMART Board will be used with new Clicker and Study Dog interactive software. Vocabulary words and pictures would enhance students knowledge in accordance with the School Improvement Plan. |
Danitra Lenard – South Elementary School
|
Using the SMART Board to edit writing and increase sentence fluency is one way this mini-grant project will help students with the fourth grade State Writing Test. Students will also use the SMART Board to practice vocabulary, increase math skills, review the solar system, learn the states and their capitals, and review and edit the class newsletter. |
Roger Lampe – Falls City Middle School
|
The SMART Board will be used in the sixth grade classroom to enhance the teaching of science by accessing interactive programs and websites. Students will study the solar system, test the laws of motion, and investigate and understand how the Earth's surface is constantly changing. Visualizing concepts with animations will help introduce and review key concepts in language arts. Students will also create "flipcards" to practice vocabulary words in science and language arts. |
Lori Rech – Falls City High School
|
The mini-grant project will get students more actively involved in their own learning by having them interact with each other using the SMART Board. A Civil War lesson has already been created where students will use the SMART Board as part of the learning process. The interactive whiteboard will also be used for classroom review games and activities, projects involving links from the internet that are implemented during presentations, and class lectures or presentations. |
Kris Simon - Falls City High School
|
Creating high school language arts lesson plans that appeal to both the auditory and visual learners will be the focus of this mini-grant project. The SMART Board will be used to demonstrate authentic stories, languages, and examples. Other lessons will utilize it to proofread and make editing changes in writing, work on interactive story writing, and incorporate a variety of media for student speeches. The SMART Board will also be used in conjunction with the Classroom Performance System ("Clickers") for testing. |
