von Behren places third at State

Tim von Behren

Tim von Behren, a junior at Falls City High School, placed third in informative speaking at the State Speech Contest in Kearney on Tuesday, March 18. He placed first in both preliminary rounds to advance to finals.

Tim's topic concerned the mysterious Ark of the Covenant. The eight- minute-long speech wove together biblical, historical, and scientific discoveries that recount the origin, purpose and mysterious disappearance of the Israeli religious relic.

To qualify for the state contest, von Behren, won the B-1 district informative speech title in Waverly on March 4. Two other students also medaled at the district contest. Rachel Stevens placed fifth in informative speaking and Dylan Frederick placed sixth in persuasive speaking.

The speech team, coached by Mark Junker, placed sixth at the B-1 district contest. They finished with 27 points.
