Assessment results reported

In November, Nebraska Commissioner of Education Doug Christensen released the 2007 State of the Schools Report. As part of the report, results of the L.E.A.R.N.S. assessments for each school district were published for grades 4, 8 and 11.

Falls City Public Schools received recognition in both reading and mathematics at all three grade levels. At the fourth grade level, the district received an exemplary rating on assessment quality and student performance in both reading and math. At the eighth grade level, FCPS also received an exemplary rating on assessment quality and student performance in both reading and math. At the eleventh grade level, the district received an exemplary rating on assessment quality and student performance in math. They received an exemplary rating on assessment quality and a very good rating on student performance in reading.

District 56 students also met Federal accountability by meeting the Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) requirements. The criterion for meeting AYP are as follows:

  • 72 percent of 4th graders, 71 percent of 8th graders, and 75 percent of 11th graders must score proficient on state standards in reading
  • 74 percent of 4th graders, 69 percent of 8th graders, and 72 percent of 11th graders must score proficient on state standards in math
  • At least 95 percent of the students must have been assessed in reading and math
  • 62 percent of 4th graders and 61 percent of 8th graders must score proficient on the statewide writing assessment
  • High school graduation rate must be at least 83.97 percent
  • Quality of assessments must be rated Good, Very Good, or Exemplary

For the first time, the state also created charts that outlined the assessment progress and percent of change in student achievement over the last five years. They also compared the district progress to the state average. To access those results, click below:
